SADC Hydrogeological Mapping - Inception Report
The South African Development Community (SADC) Hydrogeological Mapping Project (SADC HGM) has been awarded to a consortium consisting of SWECO AB (Sweden), Council for Geoscience (South Africa), Water Geosciences Consulting (South Africa) and Water Resources Consultants (Botswana). SWECO AB is the lead consultant and the consortium is referred to as SWECO & Associates.
The overall objective of the project is to improve the understanding of groundwater occurrence within the SADC region so as to promote cooperation and better understanding of water resource planning and management. The project needs to yield the following two main priority results:
- Result 1: Comprehensive, interactive web-based hydrogeological map of the SADC region;
- Result 2: Enhanced institutional capacity for producing and using hydrogeological maps in water resources planning, development and management
SWECO & Associates are providing technical services for the implementation of the project activities to meet the overall objectives and thus by implication a better understanding of the distribution of groundwater resources, as well as the extent of transboundary aquifers. The major project outputs as required are detailed in Section 2.2. The risks and assumptions to the project are identified in Section 4. The revised work schedule and input is given as Appendix 1 and Appendix 2, respectively. The updated financial report is attached as a separate report.
