United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

USAID is the principal U.S. agency to extend assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms. USAID work supports long-term and equitable economic growth and advances U.S. foreign policy objectives by supporting: (i) economic growth, agriculture and trade; (ii) global health; and, (iii) democracy, conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance. The preservation and environmentally sound development of the world’s water resources is a top priority. The Agency’s investments have helped improve access to safe and adequate water supply and sanitation, improve irrigation technology, enhance natural environments, and develop better institutional capacity for water resources management in countries around the world. This has supported the Agency’s underlying goals of reducing conflict and improving the welfare of people across the globe.
