Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Activities in the Kunene River Basin
In close cooperation between “Southern African Development Cooperation” (SADC) and the Permanent Joint Technical Commission (PJTC) the Calueque Transboundary Water Supply scheme (entitled: Kunene Transboundary Water Supply Project) is undergoing upgrading and rehabilitation works. The project is financed by Angola and Namibia with considerable contribution of the KfW Entwicklungsbank (KfW development bank) and is considered as SADC pilot-project supporting local water governance in transboundary river basins.
Within the program of GIZ Transboundary Water Management in SADC, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and in delegated cooperation with UKaid from the Department for International Development (DFID) and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) also supports PJTC with capacity development measures, the Kunene River Awarness Kit and facilitates the establishment of the Water Utility for Kunene Province.
